ECUSA/ELCA Dinner

On Thursday April 23, 2008, Guild of Scholars of the Episcopal Church President Nic Birns, member Donna Gaines and others attended the William Reed Huntington Sermon at Saint Peter's Church in NYC.

Episcopal Presiding Bishop The Most Rev. Katharine Jefferts Schori was the speaker at this annual event celebrating Christian unity and co-sponsored by the Anglican Society, the Ecumenical Relations Commission of the Episcopal Church, and St. Peter's Lutheran Church. The Lutheran Presiding Bishop, Mark S. Hanson, officiated the service, with Bishops Walker and Sisk of the Long Island and New York Episcopal dioceses were also present. The Eucharist and sermon was followed by a festive buffet dinner and a provocative question & answer session that lasted until after 9 pm

FRIDAY, MAY 30, FAMILY AND FRIENDS OF DEAN JOHNSON PRESENT ROCK N ROLL FAG BAR 2008 THE BENEFIT CONCERT at DON HILL'S 511 GREENWICH STREET (AT SPRING) NYC FROM 10:30 PM, $10 minimum donation.

Besides celebrating Johnson's cultural legacy in video and song, the evening also nods to his big heart - 100% of proceeds will benefit SYLVIA'S PLACE, providing shelter for homeless GLBT youth in NYC.

On April 3, Donna Gaines spoke at the Alpha Kappa Delta International Sociological Honor Society Induction Ceremony, United States Military Academy at West Point. Her topic was youth suicide and the military. This year, all of the inductees were women.
